Meet the Team: Colin Campbell
Meet the Watson Engineering Team: Colin Campbell
Incorporating old skills and new, Colin excels in design drafting
Engineering is a vast field encompassing everything from powering cities to designing airplanes. Colin Campbell, Project Manager, comes from the world of engineering—just not the architectural side.
Previously, he spent ten years design drafting oil pipelines for a Canadian firm. “Along the way, I was able to incorporate the knowledge I had previously learned with the new things I was learning,” he mentions. It’s been a big shift, but he has certainly learned the ropes in his four years with Watson Engineering.
Now working as a project manager, he lives up to the title and assesses each of the 10–15 projects under his watch to figure out what each one needs in order to best move forward. “It might require shuffling resources around, asking questions, or seeking input from clients,” Colin says of his day-to-day work. “I’m ensuring tasks are on schedule and under budget.”
His projects usually involve both architectural and structural plans for homeowners and general contractors, but Colin is involved in a host of other areas regarding those structures, too. He adds, “I usually have a hand in plan reviews, code analysis, site plans, and civil design.”
Colin is humble and genuine, quickly noting: “Our team’s versatility in many disciplines helps us serve our client’s needs; it sets us apart from other firms. We genuinely want to make a client’s project successful and give them a quality product."
Of the many projects he has worked on, his favorite was generating a tenant improvement plan for a local Cedar City Mexican restaurant, Brody’s. “I worked with the restaurant owner on a plan to add more floor space for their expanding business,” Colin says. It’s a project that is near and dear to his heart—and his stomach, too. “I love being able to go eat there and feel a sense of accomplishment in helping out one of my favorite eateries.”
