As Watson Engineering Company (WEC) celebrates 50 years of providing engineering services, we recently spent some time reminiscing with President Tim Watson about the engineering firm’s rich history and promising future.

Watson Engineering renews its five-year AASHTO Accreditation in Aggregate Testing and Soil Testing. AASHTO sets industry standards and publishes specifications and test protocols for highway design and construction best practices throughout the United States.

Meet the newest member of Watson Engineering Company’s young, eager in-house team of soils and field technicians, Cash Christensen. Like his coworkers, he enjoys being outside and playing in the dirt.

Trent Baugh, a junior design draftsman, finds Watson Engineering’s collaborative work environment incredibly beneficial for clients who share the details and desires for their projects. “We welcome open communication to understand a client’s needs better,” explains Trent.

The Cyrq Patua 10 MW Solar Site involved slope assessments and experienced geotechnical engineering to tackle terrain difficulties. Our expertise allowed this Nevada site to have a greater renewable energy output.

Trevor Watson began work with us back in 2018 before leaving for a mission. He’s returned since, and it’s the culture here that drew him back. “Everyone has really high expectations of one another and the quality of work we produce.”

Dave Woods joined Watson Engineering Company (Watson) 30 years ago this month. When asked what he’s enjoyed most about his time at the firm, he is unequivocal. “Teamwork. The design team does a great job with preparing much of the information I need to succeed in the field.”

When Daryl Brown initially joined Watson Engineering Company (Watson) he worked as a drafter/designer. A self-starter, he visited with firm president Tim Watson about opportunities to further his role in the firm and industry. Tim brought up the value of land surveying and at first Daryl was a little hesitant about whether it was a profession he wanted to pursue. But after speaking with associate professor Walt Cunningham at Salt Lake Community College something clicked.

Over the past decade, Southern Utah has experienced significant increases in population, tourism, and industry. All three have subsequently led to an expansion in commercial construction in the areas of manufacturing, education, multi-use, tourism, technology, and business startup spaces.
